Let me introduce you to the popular Yeollamyeon, a beloved Korean instant noodle. While Yeollamyeon has been around for a while, it seems like many videos of people eating Yeollamyeon have been popping up on YouTube lately. Although I hadn’t had it much before, after watching those videos, I decided to try it myself and found it delicious. I followed the cooking method shared by the YouTuber ‘Chef Wonyang Bi-ryong’ from the ‘Korean Food Cooking’ channel, and it turned out great!
Yeollamyeon Recipe
Ingredients:
- 1 pack of Yeollamyeon
- 1 tablespoon of gochujang (Korean chili paste)
- 1 tablespoon of minced garlic
- 1 egg
- 1 tablespoon of sesame oil
- 1 tablespoon of sesame seeds
- A pinch of black pepper
- 500ml of water
Instructions:
Boil 500ml of water in a pot.
Add 1 tablespoon of gochujang to the boiling water.
Add both the powder soup base and the vegetable flakes from the Yeollamyeon package into the water.
Add 1 tablespoon of minced garlic.
In a separate bowl, beat 1 egg and mix with 1 tablespoon of sesame oil, then set aside.
Once the water is boiling, add the noodles and cook for 3 minutes. Avoid stirring the noodles while they cook to maintain their shape (Don’t stir to ensure the noodles cook evenly, just cook for 3 minutes on high heat).
Add the egg and sesame oil mixture into the boiling noodles and cook for another 30 seconds, then turn off the heat.
Sprinkle ground sesame seeds into the pot.
Add a pinch of black pepper.
Stir everything together until the sesame seeds and pepper are well mixed, then enjoy!
The sesame seeds and sesame oil definitely add a rich, smooth flavor. Yeollamyeon is typically spicy, but the sesame oil, sesame seeds, and egg help tone down the heat a bit. The addition of black pepper enhances the bold taste of the Yeollamyeon. Normally, Yeollamyeon can be a bit salty and spicy on its own, but cooking it this way makes the broth taste deeper and more flavorful.
I thoroughly enjoyed it!
